Living Beyond Hemophilia

The First Day on the Job

Here are a few things to consider as you head into your first job, internship, or work study experience.

Arrive On Time, If Not a Little Early

The last thing you want to be is late. Know your way to the job and practice and time the route before starting. Account for traffic, or anything else that might come your way.

Bring What's Required of You

Often times, human resources will want you to bring personal documents with you on your first day. Be sure to ask ahead of time what documentation is required and be sure you have it. Sometimes, you'll need to find these documents in your parents' house, which can be a challenge if you haven't prepared in advance. Also, be sure to bring a professional-looking notebook and pen to take important notes from the start.

Know Who Your Boss Is

Know who you should ask for or where you will be going once you step inside your new job's doors. You should know who your boss is prior to reporting in on your first day at work.

Smile, And Be Confident

Smile when you meet someone or shake their hand. Smile as you walk down the hall—remember, this is your first day and you should be proud of your accomplishments!
